Abstract
This guideline deals with noise effects caused by road-, railway and air traffic. The ways of dealing with and evaluating of noise effects are described. The knowledge is gathered by the utilisation of numerous scientific studies and investigations to this matter. The combined impact of multiple noise sources and the response of affected people, described by means of dose-response relations, have been up-to dated. That guideline provides procedures to determine characteristic quantities in case of impact of multiple sources with regard to annoyance, disturbance and awakening potential and furthermore approaches for evaluating planning alternatives from the acoustical point of view. This guideline covers mainly effects of traffic noise in residential areas.
